Each candidate can submit only one work for one of the Award’s five categories. Candidates include:

1. Creators
2. Literary federations, cultural institutions, universities and publishing houses. (Publishing houses, institutions and universities are entitled to nominate an unlimited number of creators each year)

Nominations for the "Creative Personality" category must come from academic, research, and cultural institutions, or the Higher Committee of the Award.

1. The nominees must have actively contributed to enriching local and Arab poetic, critical, or artistic movements. Nominated works must also boast a high degree of originality and innovation, making significant contributions to culture and knowledge.
2. Each candidate can submit only one work for one of the Award’s categories during each edition of the award.
3. A nominated work cannot be submitted for another award in person or by proxy in the same year.
4. Nominated works cannot be awarded any Arabic or international major prizes.
5. Nominated works must be written in Arabic, with the exception of the translation category, where the Award is given to poems translated from Arabic into other languages, and studies and research category may be submitted in other living languages.
6. Submitted works must have an (ISBN) number to ensure Intellectual Property Rights.
7. Poetry, art, research, or translation works must be published. The date of publication must be within the past five years.
8. The Award administration has the right to publish submitted works as it deems appropriate after proper evaluation processes.
9. Copies of the books are deposited at the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre and are shall not be returned to their authors.
10. The Award retains the artwork and does not refund the nominees.
11. Individuals and institutions can apply to the Arts category according to the field of art approved by the Commission at each edition.
12. A nominated work can be re-nominated as long as it meets the requirements within the publication time limit.
13. A winner is entitled to apply for the prize again after 5 years of having won the Award.
